A prayer about Listening

When I’m not sure that God hears my prayers

Father,

Sometimes it feels as though my prayers are bouncing off the ceiling. I just don’t see any response. Are you paying attention? Do you hear me? But when these doubts come from my lips, you plant another question in my mind: am I paying attention? I know from your Word and from my own life that you do answer prayer. You are loving and good, and it’s in your nature to give good things to your people. But after a problem is resolved, it’s easy for me to take the solution for granted and fail to give you the credit. Sometimes I don’t even notice that you answered! O Lord, when I pray, may I be alert and watch for your response, even if it isn’t what I expected. Help me respond with gratitude, thanking you for hearing me. I trust in your goodness, and I know that no matter what your answer is, it’s the right answer.
