A prayer about Intimacy

When I want to cultivate intimate relationships

Lord,

I long to be connected with others—heart to heart, mind to mind, and soul to soul. You have created me to desire intimate relationships where I can share my burdens, fears, and joys and help others bear their burdens as well. These heart-level connections will ease my loneliness, make me feel known, and increase my compassion for others. But the most profound kind of intimacy is intimacy with you. Your Word calls the church your bride! You reveal yourself to me and allow me to learn about your heart. You are the source of love, and you have created me with the ability to love. When I experience intimacy with you, I feel your love to the fullest and return that love to you. What a gift! Knowing you not only changes me, but gives all my other relationships new and greater meaning.

“When that day comes,” says the LORD, “you will call me ‘my husband’ instead of ‘my master.’ . . . I will make you my wife forever, showing you righteousness and justice, unfailing love and compassion. I will be faithful to you and make you mine, and you will finally know me as the LORD.” Hosea 2:16, 19-20
