A Prayer About Hospitality
A prayer about Hospitality
When I want to make my home an inviting place
Lord God,
Your Word speaks highly of hospitality. It’s not always easy for me to welcome people into my home, but when I do, I’m reflecting your character. You care for all people, and you have extended a warm invitation for us to join you in your heavenly home. Father, I tend to get caught up in details, such as how well my house is decorated, what I’m serving for dinner, or whether I have cleaned adequately before my guests arrive. Please help me to remember that those things are not nearly as important as the love I lavish on my guests. May I not be distracted by things that are really about me. Instead, may I focus on my guests, greeting them warmly and trying to meet their needs, whether that means serving food or drink, providing a place to stay overnight, or offering a listening ear or a sympathetic heart. Who knows what could come of my hospitality? Perhaps it will even be the way another person understands and accepts your invitation to join you in heaven.
Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay. God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 1 Peter 4:9-10
