A Prayer About Flexibility

A prayer about Flexibility

When I’m struggling to be available to God

Father God,

I like to know what’s ahead. I plan out my days, my weeks, and sometimes even my years. I enjoy this kind of planning, yet I realize that I’m missing some opportunities because I lack flexibility. Your timing does not always match mine, and I want to allow room in my life to change my plans so they mesh with yours. I want to be available to you, Lord. Show me how to be flexible so that I can avoid anything that might take my focus off you. I want to be able to devote myself to you completely whenever you call. May I be eager to go where you call me and serve where you place me, even if it means changing my wants. That’s a form of taking up my cross—putting to death my own selfish desires—and following you. Guard me from rigidness, and prepare me for wonderful surprise moments as you guide me through life.

[Jesus said,] “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.” Mark 8:34-35
