A prayer about Eternity

When I consider how my hope of eternity affects my present life

Lord God,

The hope of heaven changes everything. If this earthly life were all I had to live for, my every moment would be focused on the here and now, on temporary pleasure and material gain. But through your promises and Jesus’ death on the cross, I have the free gift of eternal life. That puts all my troubles in perspective. My future is secure. No matter what happens in this life, I have peace. I am no longer controlled by my sinful nature, but I’m free to live as you want me to live. Thank you, Lord! May I be continually reminded of the hope of heaven and of eternal life in your presence, and may that transform my attitude toward my present circumstances.

God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17
