A prayer about Distractions

When I’m facing a new distraction

Father God,

So often I see new things that come my way as distractions from serving you. But I’m reminded of Paul and Silas when they were thrown in jail in Philippi. They didn’t chafe at the situation, frustrated because incarceration was keeping them from their missionary work. Instead, they saw this situation as a new way to serve you! They didn’t push away their distraction but embraced it—and as a result they saw you work in a mighty way. Father, please give me wisdom to see what you would have me do with whatever new distraction appears in my life. Have you put it in my path to help me focus on who is right in front of me needing help? Or what you want me to do? May I follow your call to minister, whether you’re asking me to keep on with what I’ve been doing or calling me to new people in a new place.

The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved. . . .” And they shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household.
