A Prayer About Discipline

A prayer about Discipline

When God disciplines me

Lord God,

You call me your child, and I am so grateful that you are my heavenly Father. You love me as a parent—and you also sometimes discipline me as a parent would a child. Help me to remember that your discipline is an act of love. Its aim is to keep me from damaging my relationships and to make me into the person you created me to be. You want me to build good character and habits and teach me right from wrong, and I want that too. I know that, left to myself, I would always tend to move away from you and toward sin. Protect me from that, Lord. And keep me from being selfish and immature. May I respond to your discipline with humility, not with rebellion or anger, willing to learn and change. Shape me in your image, and remind me why obedience to you is always best. I know that whatever happens, I never have to doubt your overwhelming love for me.

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. Hebrews 12:11
