A Prayer About Depression
A prayer about Depression
When I’m experiencing depression
Lord,
I’m struggling with depression. Sometimes it descends slowly and hangs in the air like an all-day rain. Other times it overwhelms me like an avalanche of darkness. I’ve had it come as the result of a specific painful event, and I’ve had it come for no discernible reason. I hate the way I feel right now, but I cling to your promise that you have not abandoned me. No matter how low I get, there is no depth I can reach that is too low for you. Even when I don’t feel your presence, you are with me. O God, please don’t let this pain be wasted. Use it! May it help me to slow down and rest in your presence. As I pray and read your Word, may the Holy Spirit do his work of comfort, transformation, and encouragement. I long for the light of your comforting presence to drive the darkness of depression from my soul.
Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
