A prayer about Conscience

When I want a clear conscience

Lord God,

You alone know my heart. I can fool others by acting good and by looking good on the outside, but I can’t fool you. You see my thoughts, my attitudes, and my motives. You’re far more concerned about the condition of my heart than about my external behavior because actions always flow from the heart. Sometimes I want to hide from you, but give me the courage to lay myself bare before you and welcome your examination. Show me the selfishness and impurity that are present in me, and root them out before they affect my actions. I know I need your cleansing. Then I’ll be able to say that my conscience is clear and my heart will be open to you as you work in me and through me.

How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:12-14
