DEAR LORD,

I want always to do what you want. But sometimes that seems tricky. A few years ago, people were wearing bracelets engraved with the letters WWJD—“What Would Jesus Do,” reminding them to act like Jesus. At the time, I thought that was strange, because I couldn’t imagine Jesus in a robe and sandals driving a car, playing basketball, or texting. But I was the one being foolish because you are not limited by space, time, and cultural norms, and human nature and temptations are the same now as then. I know that Jesus lived a perfect life and was tempted in every way that I am but without giving in. So in all my tempting situations, I am going to ask, “What would Jesus do?” and try to follow in his steps. How would he respond to a hurtful person? What would he say to a grieving friend? How would he resolve that moral dilemma? Where would he invest his resources? Let people see Jesus in me.

God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. 1 Peter 2:21-23
