A prayer about Love - Knowing the pain

JESUS MY SAVIOR,

I’m hurting right now, and I know it’s because of love. This is so confusing because I have always thought that loving someone would always feel good and make life more enjoyable. But I have learned that deep, enduring, unselfish love hurts. I should have known better because I know you and what you experienced because of love. The all-time favorite Bible verse says, “This is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son.” And I have been giving too. Because I love and give, I hurt when my loved one is in pain; I hurt when I sacrifice for the one I love; I hurt when my loved one responds with hateful words and actions toward me; I hurt when we are separated. O Jesus, you loved me so much that you gave your life for me, and you continue to love me even when I respond poorly to you. Forgive me when I am unloving and ungrateful. And help me to continue to love others, even though my loving will bring pain.

This is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
