A Prayer About Wedding Vows

A prayer about Wedding Vows - Strengthening the bonds

HEAVENLY FATHER,

Recently I heard of yet another couple breaking up, separated and headed for divorce. I thought their relationship was strong. The idea of a woman and man pledging themselves exclusively to each other for life is now thought to be unrealistic, with half of all marriages failing for a variety of reasons—affairs, finances, communication breakdowns, differences in values. And the divorce rate for Christians is about the same. So this morning I pray for the institution of marriage and for all those husbands and wives who are struggling. Cause them to remember their wedding vows where they promised to stay together until death, regardless of conflicts or circumstances. With the first man and woman, you established marriage as the basis for human society. Jesus blessed it, quoting today’s passage and adding, “Let no one split apart what God has joined together” (Matthew 19:6). Remind those couples that they made their promises before you. Keep them faithful to each other, rekindle their love, and renew their commitment.

“At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’” This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Genesis 2:23-24
