A Prayer About Temptation

A prayer about Temptation - Taking God’s way out

JESUS, MY SAVIOR,

I am desperately weak, needy, and sinful. As much as I try to do right, I inevitably fail and fall. Sinful options entice me at every turn. Today I anticipate thoughts of envy, lust, greed, and gluttony. Anger and other inappropriate responses are also real possibilities. At times of heavy temptation, I used to wonder what I had done to deserve such abuse. Then I learned that these temptations are normal—everyone faces them—and that being tempted isn’t sin. But giving in is. I must rely on your strength to make the right choice in each situation. And what an encouragement to know that you faced every temptation I face and more and did not sin. You have promised to not allow me to be tempted beyond what I can resist and to provide a way out. Thank you for trusting me that much! Now what do you want me to do? I want to live your way.

If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13
