A prayer about Looking To Jesus - Keeping my focus

PRECIOUS SAVIOR,

My heart breaks when I hear reports of Christian leaders who have been exposed for their secret sins. Yes, everyone is vulnerable, but I expect so much more of these men and women. Through the years, mature believers who preached, taught, and mentored me have helped me along my faith journey. So I looked up to them, setting them on spiritual pedestals. They didn’t ask me to, and I certainly did them no favors by putting them under that kind of pressure to be flawless. Jesus, you are the only sinless person who ever lived—God in the flesh. So you are the perfect example to follow, and you will never let me down. I need to keep my eyes on you—to know what God is like (as you told Philip, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father!”), to know what to believe, and to know how to live. And as I disciple younger believers, help me keep them focused on you.

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?” John 14:8-9
