A Prayer About Life Investment

A prayer about Life Investment - Building what lasts

ALMIGHTY GOD,

I love to watch children playfully digging in the sand. Their creative works vary widely because of the age and ability of the builders. Some create simple houses using cups and baskets packed with sand and then turned over. But others (especially those where Mom or Dad are involved) are elaborate and detailed castles or cities, having been poured, carved, and shaped with care. But regardless of the effort or expertise, eventually the waves roll over and wash everything away. Yet I see more than children and sand activity, Lord. I see myself and the futility of my efforts. Much of what I have spent my life building won’t pass the test of the tide—it will all quickly crumble and wash away. The saying goes, “Only one life, ’twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.” I want my life to make a difference, now and in eternity. This day, help me invest in lasting monuments of grace—sharing your love and the gospel, not castles of sand.

We don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. 2 Corinthians 4:18
