A Prayer About Judgment
A prayer about Judgment - Hearing the warnings
MY SAVIOR,
In today’s passage, I hear you denouncing these towns, including Capernaum, and I can see why. You ate and slept there; you walked the dusty paths and taught and did many miracles. Yet most of the people rejected your message, refusing to believe in you. But then I think of my country, ostensibly a “Christian nation,” and my city, and I weep. We have the Bible in scores of translations, more than two thousand years of church history, and a great legacy of theologians, reformers, and preachers, and every community has Christian houses of worship of every stripe. Yet a growing number of people refuse to believe in you. What’s even more disturbing is that so many of the rest of us, who claim to be your followers, pay little attention to your clear teachings and live any way we want. I confess that I see myself in these verses. Forgive me for not obeying you in taking your message beyond my private world. We need a revival in our land, in our churches. Let it begin this day in me.
Jesus began to denounce the towns where he had done so many of his miracles, because they hadn’t repented of their sins and turned to God. Matthew 11:20
