A Prayer About Investments

A prayer about Investments - Serving the Master

MY SAVIOR,

For a while I had a difficult time understanding what this servant in today’s Bible verses did to deserve such rebuke. Then I realized that despite what the man told his master about his reasons for not investing the money, he was really concerned only for himself. He hadn’t tried to carry out his responsibilities. Instead, he had taken the easy way, and in the process he had ignored his master’s instructions. He had played it safe. Grasping tightly the resources you have entrusted to me is so tempting and easy. I can go through life playing it safe because I’m not losing anything. In reality, if I don’t let go and give up, I lose it all. I’m not sure how this all works out, but I know that I need to use your resources to make a difference for you instead of worrying about what I might lose.

“I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.” But the master replied, “You wicked and lazy servant! . . . Why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.” Then he ordered, . . . “Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matthew 25:25-28, 30
