A Prayer About Growth

A prayer about Growth - Progressing in faith

FATHER GOD,

I am so thankful to be a work in progress. You are not finished with me and are working in me to make me more and more like Christ. As I read today’s passage, I am struck by the fact that Peter’s last recorded words challenge us to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” And that comes right after his warning about losing “secure footing.” The implication seems to be that if I’m not moving forward, I’ll slide backward. So I need to keep climbing, Lord, one careful and purposeful step at a time—a continuous, day-by-day process. I’m often tempted to fall back into self-centered and self-serving choices. Thus I ask you, Father, to shape my desires and thoughts, bringing to mind anything in my life that displeases you. Today, in every decision, please guide me, and in every temptation, give me strength to resist. Help me to grow in knowledge, to study and apply your Word, and to learn from godly teachers.

Be on guard; then you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing. Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:17-18
