A Prayer About Eternity

A prayer about Eternity - Seeing the big picture

DEAR LORD,

These days people live much longer than in previous generations because of advances in science and medicine. We also exercise, eat well, and do whatever we can to look and feel youthful longer. Add to that the latest cosmetics and fashions, designed to make us appear perpetually young. That’s okay to a point, but we’re also denying the inevitable—aging and dying. In fact, I think people in my generation are surprised by death! As a Christian, I should know better, but I find myself pulled into thinking and acting as though this life is all there is. I know that my time on earth is short, and life with you goes on forever. So I should make these few years count for what will last. You have changed me on the inside, Lord, and I know I am bound for heaven. Please help me lift my eyes from the tiny vision around me and look up and beyond to all that awaits—eternal life with you.

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? Matthew 16:25-26
