A Prayer About Divine Interruptions

A prayer about Divine Interruptions - Seeing God’s appointments

HOLY SPIRIT,

As a planner, I usually have a daily agenda, a detailed schedule, knowing what I will do and who I’ll see. So when I receive an unexpected phone call or visit, I want to dismiss the person quickly and get back on schedule. But that can make me blind to the opportunities you bring for me to serve you. Sometimes the person might need someone to listen, talk to, or pray with—but I want to say good-bye and get going. At other times, events might send my day a different direction (much to my frustration). But I think of the many people you “interrupted” so they could accomplish much for you: Abraham with heavenly visitors, Moses with the burning bush, David as he tended sheep, Peter while mending nets, Saul en route to Damascus. All had schedules to keep, but instead you turned their lives around. I certainly don’t expect to be a Moses or a Paul, but I want to be always available to your leading, open to your appointments. Make me sensitive today, Lord, to your divine interruptions.

We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. Proverbs 16:9

What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” James 4:15
