A prayer about Comparisons - Accepting who I am in Christ

FATHER IN HEAVEN,

Keep me from the comparison game. Today I will see scores of people, most of them strangers, and I will be tempted to see how I match up—clothes, possessions, appearance, and other physical attributes. These comparisons lead to pride when I think I have more or look better, or they can lead to envy and even discouragement when I have less. I do the same with close friends, only then I also consider their lifestyles, social skills, spiritual gifts, and dedication to you and your mission. Instead of inspecting others and worrying about anyone else, I should focus on myself and my relationship with you. Thank you for making me the way I am, a unique person, with special physical, mental, emotional, and social strengths and other gifts to use in this world for your glory. How I stack up to others has no bearing on our relationship. I praise you for creating me and accepting me just as I am, and I know you are working in me to make me better.

Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct. Galatians 6:4-5
