A Prayer About Aging

A prayer about Aging - Dealing with getting older

O LORD,

Pulling myself out of bed this morning, my bones seemed to creak, and I needed a few steps to get my muscles and joints warmed up. It’s a wake-up call to the harsh truth about getting older! Although I know the process and that aging is inevitable, I don’t like it. One of my great frustrations concerns certain physical activities that used to be easy. Now, not so much. And the years seem to roll by faster and faster. I find myself saying, “Just ten years ago . . .” Then I think of my age back then and how the event seems to have happened yesterday. Why do I take life for granted and act as though I will live forever? Help me, Lord, to get a grip on the reality of my mortality. Life is so short, and I want to make the most of my remaining days, months, and years. I want to invest the time I have left in matters that count for eternity—loving, giving, serving, laughing, learning, and spreading the Good News.

Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. Psalm 90:12
