A Prayer About Work

A prayer about Work

When I know my labor matters to God

HEAVENLY FATHER,

At every place of employment, virtually all employees seem to view work as a necessary evil. They live for breaks, quitting time, and weekends. I don’t want to have that attitude, but I feel as though I am slipping into it, using my work simply as a means to an end, for the money. That’s terrible stewardship because my job comprises more than a third of every day! I know that work isn’t bad, because you gave Adam an assignment before sin entered the world. But I also understand that not all work is good—I shouldn’t do anything that violates your commands or causes others to do so. Please help me find meaning and joy in my occupation, and show me how I can do my job in a way that glorifies you. I ask you to guide me to where I can best use the abilities and mind that you gave me. And on the job, may my coworkers see that I am working for you and be drawn to Christ.

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:23
