A Prayer About The Sabbath

A prayer about The Sabbath

When I need the day of rest

LOVING CREATOR,

You created the heavens and the earth in six days and set aside the next day for rest. Then you commanded your people to dedicate every seventh day—the Sabbath—to worship and rest. I need regular Sabbath days, Lord, because I am tired and because you created human beings with that necessary life rhythm. I forget that and work hard to fill just about every waking moment of the week with activity. Even worship and other church events and responsibilities have succumbed as I frenetically run from one activity to another. Maybe I have a messiah complex, or perhaps I don’t want to stop and listen to you, afraid of what I might hear. But living this way is unhealthy and wrong. Beyond needing a break from my obsessive agenda, I need concentrated time with you, quality time. Please show me what to unload or leave behind, how to rearrange my schedule. The ancient Sabbath began at sundown, so help me prepare the night before, giving me a full seventh day to spend with you.

Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Exodus 20:8
