A Prayer About Coworkers

When I think about my colleagues

DEAR LORD,

I spend so much time each week with select groups as we work to reach our goals together. With one set I earn a living, investing eight hours daily during the week. With another, friends at church and in other ministries, I minister in the evenings and on weekends. These coworkers know—almost as well as my family does—my strengths and weaknesses, work habits, response to supervision, commitment to the mission, interests, values, and reactions under pressure. And I know them—their struggles, hurts, loves, desires, challenges, and dreams. These people certainly know I’m not perfect, because they have seen my miscues up close and personal. And they can see through any facade or image I may attempt to project; for example, when I pretend to be something I’m not. In other words, they know the real me. My hope—my prayer—is that the real me is what you want me to be. I want them to see Christ in everything I do . . . in my focus, choices, reactions, stewardship, conversations, values, and relationships.

Whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. Colossians 3:17
