A Prayer About The Persecuted Church

When I consider how my brothers and sisters in Christ are suffering

FATHER IN HEAVEN,

I am not rich or pampered, but I have life so easy compared to most people in the world. And when I learn what thousands of my fellow Christians worldwide are encountering and enduring, I am humbled and grieved. Bibles are being confiscated, churches burned, pastors imprisoned and tortured, families torn apart, and many maimed or killed, all because these believers are not ashamed to follow their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am so weak in my witness, often backing off at the first sign of opposition, and they are so strong, courageous, and faithful. Many rejoice in their persecution and continue to share the gospel. I am one with them, dear Lord. What an example they provide of commitment and discipleship. Strengthen and encourage them, Father. Heal their wounds, protect them, guide them, and release those in prison, I pray. Let them feel your presence and know that their brothers and sisters, though thousands of miles away, are praying for them.

[Paul said,] “I don’t know what awaits me, except that the Holy Spirit tells me in city after city that jail and suffering lie ahead. But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” Acts 20:22-24
