A Prayer About The Names Of God

When I study God’s titles

JEHOVAH,

I am not a number or a letter. I am a person with a name. Before I was born, my parents considered many options for what to call me. Family history, special friends, unique meanings, and other factors informed the decision. And I have carried that moniker since birth—my first, middle, and last names. You know the power of a name, and you changed a few significant ones recorded in Scripture: Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, Jacob to Israel, Simon to Cephas or Peter, and more. The Bible also reveals your many titles, each one highlighting a profound aspect of your nature. I submit to you, Adonai-Jehovah—“The Lord our Sovereign”; El-Shaddai—“God Almighty”; Jehovah-Elohim—“The Eternal Creator”; El-Olam—“The Everlasting God”; Jehovah-Jireh—“The Lord our Provider.” And I praise you as the great “I AM”— the one who is eternally existing, Alpha and Omega, beginning and end. I worship and adore you, my Lord and my God. What an amazing privilege to be your child and to serve you!

God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.
