A Prayer About The Holy Spirit
A prayer about The Holy Spirit
When I begin to understand this member of the Trinity
HOLY SPIRIT,
Forgive me for overlooking you. The Trinity is such a mystery, but I know you are real and that Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one. You are not a separate deity or part of God—you are fully God. Jesus told his disciples that after he left, he would send you. You are called “Advocate” because of your work highlighting the truth and pointing people to Jesus. You are also called “Comforter” because you come alongside your people. You have, indeed, come into the world and into me because I received you when I gave my life to Christ. You guide me into truth; you convict me of my sin; you produce fruit; you empower me to share the gospel with others; you change me when I allow you to do your powerful work in me. I know I grieve you when I ignore your leading and when I deliberately sin. Forgive me. I submit to you, Holy Spirit. Do what you want with me and release your power through me.
[Jesus said,] “It is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. . . . When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. . . . He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.” John 16:7-8, 13-14
