A Prayer About God’s Mercy

When I try to understand the depth of the Savior’s love

MOST MERCIFUL LORD AND SAVIOR,

My sins were so great and vile. I had turned my back on you, failing to do what you wanted and not doing what you commanded—willfully rebelling against you. I was born a sinner, and I proved it by sinning continually. Depraved through and through, I had nothing good to offer you. I was totally and absolutely lost and condemned, deserving your displeasure and punishment. Hell was my sure destination. But in your infinite mercy, you didn’t give me what I deserved—eternal death. And in your boundless grace, you gave me what I didn’t deserve—eternal life. You, the perfect Lamb of God, died for me, in my place, taking my punishment. In your love you chose me, called me, and redeemed me. Now I stand forgiven, freed, justified, and bound for heaven. And I live each day by your continuous mercy and grace. I can only exclaim, “Thank you, Jesus!” How can I respond except to worship and praise you and live for you each day? I love you, Lord.

God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) Ephesians 2:4-5
