A Prayer About The Bible

When I read God’s Word

HEAVENLY FATHER,

I read the Bible this morning, and your words stayed with me throughout the day, especially certain passages, informing my actions as I went about my daily routine. I study Scripture, not as a duty, but because I know that on those pages, in those words, you have revealed who you are and how you want your people to live. I am convinced that the Bible is my ultimate authority for faith and practice. As I read, I see you in action—creating, sustaining, loving, reaching, redeeming, forgiving, judging, and guiding. I hear you teaching, reprimanding, affirming, and encouraging. I feel your heart. I see you deal with real people in their struggles. And I see Jesus. As I delve into your story, I also see myself and my need for you. Thank you for working through writers centuries ago to pen the words you desired and for keeping them from error, giving us the inspired Word of God. Through your Spirit, illuminate those words and give me the courage and strength to put those life principles into practice.

I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word. Psalm 119:15-16
