A Prayer About Standing Firm

When I am confronted and accused

PRECIOUS SAVIOR,

I recently encountered hostility—not totally unexpected, but certainly more intense than I had anticipated. I was wrongfully accused, and I’m pretty sure the animosity stems from my faith. The fact that I profess to be your follower, determined to live your way, is problematic for those with questionable morals and ethics. I remember that you told your early disciples to expect opposition. You told them not to “worry in advance about how to answer” but instead, to trust you fully. You also challenged them to stand firm. That’s what I determine to do, Lord, with your help. I know what is right, and I will not give in. Regardless of the pressure, I will stand strong, my feet firmly planted on your Word, confident that you will give me “the right words and . . . wisdom.” Whatever the final outcome, my faith—my relationship with you—is far more valuable than anything this world has to offer. So I commit the entire situation into your hand, dear Jesus. Give me strength and courage, words and wisdom.

Don’t worry in advance about how to answer the charges against you, for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to reply or refute you! . . . And everyone will hate you because you are my followers. But not a hair of your head will perish! By standing firm, you will win your souls. Luke 21:14-15, 17-19
