A Prayer About Security

When I must let go

GOD,

Toddlers with security blankets are cute, but adult versions are not. When Jesus told a potential follower to divest himself of his riches, the man couldn’t do it, turning away from the Savior and life. Wealth was his idol, his security. Reveal my idol-blankets, Lord. Give me the strength to drop them at your feet. I want to depend on you alone.

[Jesus said,] “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions. Mark 10:21-22
