A Prayer About Repentance

When I need to turn around

DEAR LORD,

I remember seeing billboards and signs with one word, Repent! and thinking the message was quaint and out of touch with modern life. But here I am, needing to do just that. I am sinning, dear God, and I need to stop. I need forgiveness. I need you. I know that repentance literally means turning around and going in the opposite direction. This means stopping my move away from you. It also means regretting and rejecting that course of action and making a 180-degree turn. Jesus preached “repent and believe”—negative and positive, turn away from sin and go toward God. So right now I reject that sinful way of life and trust only in you. I believe, Lord, but please strengthen that belief and my faith. I move away from you and don’t live your way because I have a sinful nature and because I am tempted on every side. But you made me new when I trusted Christ as Savior, so now, empowered by your Spirit, I can make God-honoring decisions and choices. Give me strength.

Repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Acts 3:19
