A Prayer About Rest
A prayer about Rest
When I am tired
LORD,
Yesterday was fairly normal, and today began all right. In fact, I was cheerful and optimistic as I arose and prepared. But now I’m exhausted—worn out and worn down by the cares and concerns of the last twelve hours. Everyone seemed to want a piece of me, as I dealt with in-person conversations, phone calls, meetings, and messages. Frantically I worked to meet demands, filling every minute. I have accomplished much, but I have left much undone. And I feel spent and just want to escape this exhausting routine. I fear that this weariness of body and soul is encroaching on other areas of my life: my relationships with people, my perspective, and most important, my relationship with you. Father, you have promised to be my Divine Shepherd, to feed me, lead me, and restore me. I pray for that right now. I need the rest you promise; I need you. Please help me fall back in total trust. Catch me and enfold me with your love. Give my soul peace tonight. Then help me awaken and arise, strengthened to live fully for you.
The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. Psalm 23:1-3
