A Prayer About Procrastination
A prayer about Procrastination
When I put off doing what I know I should
DEAR LORD,
According to Isaac Newton, one of your natural laws is “inertia”—the tendency of something to remain at rest (or in motion) unless acted upon by an outside force. I certainly can identify with the “at rest” tendency. With a task or assignment that I find even the least bit unpleasant or uncomfortable, I can find numerous excuses for not getting out of my chair and doing it. And I admit that I have done this with some of the actions that you want me to take. I am more comfortable in my home than out in the community or mission field. I feel more threatened talking with my neighbors or strangers than with friends and family. And serving at church takes time and effort. I can even procrastinate spending time with you in the Word and prayer, choosing television instead. I don’t want to be that kind of person, Lord. Remind me daily that Jesus left heaven to become a baby; he gave himself to others; he submitted to human authorities; he took up his cross and climbed Calvary.
Don’t put it off; do it now! Don’t rest until you do. Proverbs 6:4
