A Prayer About Light
A prayer about Light
When I am in the dark
GRACIOUS GOD,
Today I was reminded that this world is a dark place. With reports of drug abuse, gangs, random killings, promiscuity, and wholesale rejection of your moral law, I can almost feel evil closing in, like a huge, heavy cloud blocking the sun. The scene is ominous, menacing, evoking a sense of dread and fear. Isaiah wrote of people walking in darkness—confused and bound for disaster—but he said the light would come. And Jesus is that light, the Light of the world. Light illuminates, spotlights, and guides. Most important, light dispels the dark. The absence of light can lead to doubt, injury, and despair. That’s where Satan wants me to live, so that he can set the parameters for my life. But Jesus breaks through and offers hope and the way to life. So with Jesus, the Light, I have a choice: I can remain in the darkness, or I can follow him and walk in the light, as he leads the way to life. I choose the Light. Please help me, Lord, to stay focused on him.
Jesus spoke to the people . . . and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12
