A Prayer About Illumination

A prayer about Illumination

When I read and teach God’s Word

SPIRIT OF GOD,

I believe that the Bible is revealed by God, so it is inspired. All Scripture is inerrant, totally accurate in all that it reports and teaches. That’s why I read the Bible regularly in daily devotions and small group studies and listen to the Word preached and taught in church. Because the Bible is more than merely a very large book, I need to work at understanding the meaning of its spiritual truths, discerning the timeless principles, and seeing how they apply to me. I can’t do this on my own; I need you, Holy Spirit. Without you, I would only be reading words on a page. Open my spiritual eyes, I pray, to help me see the wonderful truths in your Word. Lead me to those passages that I need for my correction and for guidance. And Lord, give me the words to say when I teach others from the Bible. I don’t want to be known as a clever person or a good speaker, but as one who hears from you and then opens the Word.

Be good to your servant, that I may live and obey your word. Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions. Psalm 119:17-18
