A Prayer About Harvest

When I look on the mission fields

AWESOME LORD,

Jesus looked on the assembled crowds with compassion. I admit that if I had been one of the twelve disciples, I would have had a different take on the situation, probably seeing the people as an inconvenience, interruption, or threat to my access to the Master. Jesus saw them as lost souls who needed saving. That was his mission, why he came to earth. Since this incident, many have taken Jesus’ words seriously and have worked tirelessly in the mission fields. In fact, if not for a faithful worker, I would still be lost in my sin. Today, the harvest is still great and the workers few. People are waiting to hear the gospel and respond, but they need someone to tell it to them. You have entrusted this task to your followers. So I pray for eyes of compassion and a willing heart. Even tonight, please bring individuals to mind for whom I should be praying. Then, beginning tomorrow morning, lead me to those with whom I can share Christ. I want to tell my story and introduce them to the Savior.

When [Jesus] saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” Matthew 9:36-38
