A Prayer About Everything New

When I am feeling old

DEAR GOD,

I know I’m getting older every day—that’s how life works. But I felt old today. Nothing serious or dramatic happened. I just had some new aches and a fleeting remembrance of an earlier time when life seemed less dramatic and complex. I also remembered being much happier and more hopeful back then. Suddenly I felt as though life was passing me by, and I found myself almost wishing I could reverse the clock, go back to my younger years. Maybe I’m just afraid of what lies ahead—life isn’t easy and seems to be getting tougher. Then I read your promise that you are “making everything new.” New heavens, new earth, new body—everything restored and relationships renewed. This means no matter how old I am or how I feel and regardless of my problems, pains, and challenges, you are at work in me and around me, making everything (including me) brand new. Help me cling to this promise and keep my focus on you and your ultimate and wonderful plan for me.
