A Prayer About Doubts

When I question my faith

ETERNAL GOD,

“Never doubt in darkness what God has shown you in the light.” Today I needed to be reminded of that quote from Dr. V. Raymond Edman because I felt the dark closing in and questions beginning to form at the edges of my faith. This kind of darkness has many forms, among them stress, tragedy, and depression. Today, it was the realization of my lack of resources compared to my obligations. So I felt as though I were standing in a room with no source of light. The longer I stood in the dark, the more susceptible I was to questioning what was actually in the room—because I couldn’t see anything. But I know Jesus, the Truth, and I trust your Word. On brighter days, you have revealed much to me. You have chosen, saved, forgiven, and changed me—that I know for sure. And I recall your promises and other mighty deeds on my behalf. Please dismiss my doubts, allay my fears, and strengthen my weak faith. I want to stand strong and move mountains for you.

Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like [the miracle I did] and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.” Matthew 21:21-22
