A Prayer About Discernment

When I need heavenly wisdom

GRACIOUS GOD,

I need your wisdom, always. Whenever I trust only in my own thoughts and ideas, I complicate matters and, at times, even head into disaster. Every day I am confronted with questions in various areas of life—relationships, investment of money and time, work, and others. These issues concern whether something is true or not, whom I can trust, the direction I should take. This week—today, in fact—several paths lie before me, and I need to choose just one. They all look right; they all seem good. Relying completely on myself, my own thoughts and emotions, I tend to rationalize or feel my way along. Instead I need to discern your will. I know that begins by carefully studying your Word, rightly interpreting it, and personally applying it. So I ask you to please give me discernment to understand your Word. Then, when I know what you want me to believe and do, give me the courage and strength to follow through.

Give discernment to me, your servant; then I will understand your laws. Psalm 119:125
