A Prayer About Disappointment
A prayer about Disappointment
When life doesn’t go my way
FATHER,
I remember a childhood experience that shattered my world. When I didn’t get what I wanted and expected, I was heartbroken and couldn’t be consoled, convinced it was the worst possible thing that could ever happen. Now I see it was no big deal . . . but it was to me at the time. And I remember a few years later feeling the same way in a relationship crisis. Again, I thought I would die, but life went on. Looking back, I can hardly believe the event affected me so much. What a change perspective makes! I need to remember that lesson, Lord, right now, in this disappointment. If I could only see life from your point of view, I’d see how you are weaving the tapestry of my life. But at this moment, I am frustrated, angry, and sad. Please dry my tears and heal my broken heart. Help me know that you are watching over me and that this will pass. I need to trust you and keep moving forward.
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:3-5
