A Prayer About Defending The Faith
A prayer about Defending The Faith
When I need to speak up for Christ
FATHER,
During the day I often hear disparaging comments about Christianity, sometimes outright disbelief and blasphemy. I want to speak up, but I’m not sure what to say or how to say it. And when people use my Lord’s name as a swear word or ridicule you or your people, I hurt inside and want to defend the truth. Yet I know that you need no defense from me. You are the sovereign and omnipotent God, and I’m just a tiny voice. At the same time, however, I know that you want believers to stand for the truth, to defend the faith entrusted to us. So I ask for courage, Lord, to say what I must. I also ask for words, Father, the cogent arguments that will cause others to reconsider their position and think about you. And I ask, most of all, for love—to see these people not as antagonists or as the enemy, but as lost souls who desperately need you.
Dear friends, I had been eagerly planning to write to you about the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time to his holy people. Jude 1:3
