A Prayer About Creation
A prayer about Creation
When I see the wonders in the world around me
O LORD MY GOD,
I am overwhelmed by the glorious beauty of your creation. Today we had “bad weather”—the forecasters were all over the situation with their charts, maps, and predictions—and it certainly made driving difficult. But even a powerful storm displays your might and design, especially when I consider how my local weather relates to others. I may be inconvenienced by the rain that a farmer needs. Winter snows provide protective cover in cold snaps and water in the spring. Even hurricanes play a part. So I lived my way through today’s storm. Then tonight, after the skies cleared, I gazed upon the vast panoply of stars and was awestruck by your creativity and immensity—far beyond what I could ever imagine. You are amazing, God! Swallowtail butterflies, sunsets, golden leaves, the first shoot breaking through the earth, sparkling meandering rivers, rock formations, goldfinches, snow crystals, the sun’s rays streaming through a prism, and the soft cry of a newborn all declare your glory. And to think that you love me!
When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—the moon and the stars you set in place—what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. Psalm 8:3-5
