A Prayer About Complacency

When I take God for granted

FATHER GOD,

I don’t know how it happens. Maybe I just get too busy and consumed with my own affairs, but I easily take you, your goodness, and your blessings for granted. It seems to be a fallback position, and I act as though I have forgotten your mighty works, profound love, and continuing grace for me. Every day I need to remember that I am a sinner and that Jesus died for me, in my place, on the cross. I desperately need you, Lord. When I become complacent in my faith, I tend to become self-focused and overlook my mistakes and transgressions. Instead, I want to be a person who takes sin seriously and lives fully, rejoicing in my salvation. I also don’t want to be complacent about the fate of those who don’t know you. Infuse me with urgency, realizing that you give me many opportunities to tell others about Christ. Thank you, Lord, for who you are, all you have done through Jesus, what you are doing in me by the Spirit, and the future you have planned.

I will search with lanterns in Jerusalem’s darkest corners to punish those who sit complacent in their sins. They think the LORD will do nothing to them, either good or bad. Zephaniah 1:12
