A Prayer About Being The Best
A prayer about Being The Best
When I’m tempted to settle for “good” or “better”
LOVING GOD,
I had a good day today. I think I did relatively good work, lived well, and accomplished quite a bit. And I usually try to do even better. To be honest, however, I have to admit that my understanding of “good” and “better” comes from comparing myself with others. I have a good life compared to those who struggle, and I do good things compared to those who don’t. I think I’m a good person. I also can use that standard to measure my performance, thinking that I’m doing well simply because my work is above average. I am good, and that should be enough. But I want to be the best, not for my sake, but to glorify you. I want to be your person, living up to your standards, regardless of how that compares to anyone else. I want to be more like Jesus. Help me be the best I can be for your sake. I want to hold nothing back and offer you my best—in how I work, relate to others, serve at church, and live.
You should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts. But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all. 1 Corinthians 12:31
