A Prayer About Adoption

When I know that I am God’s child, chosen by him

MY FATHER,

I am so thankful that I can call you Father—Dad. I have an earthly family whom I love very much. I am like my earthly parents, either through genetics or environment (or both). Then, when I put my trust in Christ, you changed me and made me a member of your family. I was born again. But the Bible also says that I am adopted. This means you chose me and brought me home. No matter where I am, what I feel, or what I am going through, I know I belong to you, that you are with me and are looking out for me. I also know that I am becoming more and more like you. Because I am your beloved child, when I feel afraid or lost, you will find me; when I am joyful, you celebrate with me; as I run life’s race, you cheer me on as my biggest fan! And when I hurt, you comfort me, drawing me close in your loving arms. At those times—and now—I cry, “Hold me, Daddy.”

You have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15
