Where Your Confidence Lies

Our culture blames a great deal of our problems on lack of self-esteem. If people had more confidence, it says, they’d all be able to rise higher in life. We even love the phrase, “I can’t love others until I learn to love myself.”

This is an upside-down way of seeing what matters. While it’s certainly true that a strong sense of self-worth is vital for our success and purpose, we’ll never get there by just looking inward or by looking out for number one.

To really discover your worth, you need to study and imitate the One who created you. Jesus’ confidence was in His Father, and His identity and purpose were defined by His humility and service to others.

Self-esteem is indeed the problem. But the solution is finding your confidence in the most humble Person the world has ever known and then making His image your image.

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
