What You Accumulate

If the love of money is the root of all evil, then perhaps giving away your money is the root of all good. If not, it’s certainly one of the great goods in this world.

There are few better feelings than giving to those in need—the poor, the orphan, a relative, or a friend in dire straits. Or giving to those making a difference in what matters—your church, charitable organizations, a missionary or aid worker.

We’re told to build wealth with accumulation in mind. While it is wise to earn, budget, and save, don’t do it so you can have more and more. Do it so you’ll have enough financial security to give away as much as possible.

By giving away your money, you do accumulate something—a closer connection to the Source of all that matters and a sense that you played a part in sharing the best kind of wealth with those in need.

One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. —Proverbs 11:24
