The Source Underneath

Clean water is a real need in third-world countries. Families draw their water from contaminated rivers and often contract disease trying to meet their most basic needs. One of the best solutions has been to dig new wells. Often, beneath their very feet is a source of pure water. They just need the means to get to it and bring it to the surface.

We often draw from contaminated water when it comes to our character. We need love but are poisoned by dysfunction and hurt. We long for peace but end up with numbed forgetfulness. We thirst for joy but drink empty pleasure and distraction.

If you’ve turned your life over to God, His Spirit comes to live within you. There’s a source of pure water underneath that you can draw from. You’ll need some tools to bring it to the surface—prayer, Bible reading, worship.

But you no longer have to draw from the contaminated rivers of the world.

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. —Psalm 51:10
